The Badger Inn
(map)
This family run local pub can be found at the corner of the A3073, just
as you turn into Church Road going toward Brewery Hill. It's a friendly
pub that welcomes families and has an excellent all-round menu. There
is a garden where you can sit out to eat and drink in the summer.
Lelant Post Office
Lelant Post Office is on the left just as you approach Lelant village
from the A30. You can buy provisions here, such as newspapers, milk, tea
and coffee. It opens Monday to Saturday (closed for lunch between 1pm
-2pm).
Hayle estuary -
RSPB reserve
Lelant is a wonderful place for bird watching, and The Flat is perfectly
positioned to enjoy the local bird population. The garden runs directly
down on to the RSPB's Hayle Estuary. It's the most south-westerly estuary
in the United Kingdom and thus a particularly good place to watch birds
even in autumn and winter, as it never freezes!
It is important for
migrating and wintering wildfowl (wigeons, teals and shelducks) and wading
birds (dumins, curlew and grey plovers). The estuary is open at all times.
St Uny Church
The church of St Uny Lelant, is said to be the burial place of the saint
(a brother of St Herygh) whose name it bears. The church was given to
the monastery of Tywardreth in the reign of Richard I.
